Long-term Study of Complex Society-Environment Interactions

Place the ideas developed in GSDP against the backdrop of the evolution of socio-environmental dynamics at different spatial and temporal scales.

In this work package, we will place the ideas developed in GSDP against the backdrop of the evolution of socio-environmental dynamics at different spatial and temporal scales. We will develop a generative perspective on the emergence of different institutions, cultures, social organizations and environments in order to compare the socio-environmental dynamics of our own society with those of other societies in the past and the present. Thus ‘stretching’ our perspective in the spatial and temporal dimensions is essential for sound research on the socio-ecological transition humankind needs to engage in the coming decades.
